If you're a woman of color -- even in a city as beautifully diverse as Miami -- it's easy to walk into a department store and feel like your options are limited. Even some of the biggest brands have the audacity to offer less than six shades of foundation, or eyeshadows with pathetic amounts of pigment that barely show up on brown skin.

In an age where a lovely African American woman is the First Lady of the United States of America, that kind of thing is hardly acceptable. Will there be change at the makeup counter during the Obama era? This makeup junkie can only hope.

Until that day, you can find me this Saturday at Macy's Aventura. Their third annual Women of Color event will take place Saturday February 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the end of No Buy Month!

Beauty experts from Lancome, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Prescriptives, Chanel, Fashion Fair, Elizabeth Arden, MAC, Shiseido, Clarins, Benefit, and Dior will be giving professional consultations, advice, and product recommendations to help you find their perfect shades of makeup. Expect sweet gift-with-purchase deals and makeovers a plenty. There'll be customized, complimentary facials at the Goldfaden Skincare counter, and guest presentations by two luminaries of the makeup world.

Special guest celebrity makeup artist Patrece Williams is taking a break from her busy, busy job as one of the key makeup artists for the CBS the Early Show and being the artist of choice for Aretha Franklin and Vanessa Williams, to give a presentation at 12:30. And at 3:30, Damone Roberts, AKA The Eyebrow King, will discuss his experience in shaping the perfect arch for the likes of Beyonce, Mandy Moore, and Brandy, and give everyone in attendance some key pointers.

Admission is free, but reservations are available. The first 200 people to make a reservation will receive a complimentary slim wallet, and there is a $25 reservation fee, which will be applied toward any fragrance or cosmetics purchase during the event.

There's also a gift with purchase deal -- the first 300 people who make a cosmetics or fragrance purchase of $75 or more at the event will receive a colorful spring tote bag. Sweet! If you want to RSVP, call 305-682-3352 . If you want to reserve a spot for a restorative, anti-aging facial, please email [email protected] or call 786-281-9580.
