Close to 30 bicyclists were involved in an accident this morning on the Rickenbacker Causeway that sent three people to the hospital and injured several others. A large peloton was riding across the Key Biscayne bridge at up to 35 mph when some bikes lost control.
"Everybody got involved because of the speed. We were riding 30 mph or so, 35, and when the pavement was wet," rider Frank Morejon, who was not involved in the accident, tells WSVN. "Even when you stop, the bike is sliding and you still crash."
The incident occurred just before 7 a.m., when some bicyclists in the front of the pack collided with each other. That set off a chain reaction. Nearly 30 riders were forced off their bikes.
Luckily no cars were involved.
Three of the bicyclists were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The others were treated on the scene.
