Never for the life of me have I ever understood why South Florida has its own Ice Hockey team. Of course, being a native Floridian I have never made much sense out of hockey in general. It is just not natural.
I guess we have enough snow birds and ex-Northerners to make this a viable venture, but it is really not a sport that would have any natural local outgrowth. Anyway, The Miami Herald reports that the Panthers will start of next season playing one game in a city where Hockey is actually appreciated by the true native: Helsinki, Finland. I understand they can actually play the sport there outside! Imagine!
