For some people, Miami fashion will always bring to mind images of Gianni Versace’s pastel suits on Miami Vice, but according to a new survey from the Global Language Monitor, Miami ranks among the top ten fashion capitals in the world.
GLM comes to the conclusion through a tricky mashup of words and math:
This exclusive ranking is based upon GLM’s Predictive Quantities Index, a proprietary algorithm that tracks words and phrases in print and electronic media, on the Internet and throughout the blogosphere. The words and phrases are tracked in relation to their frequency, contextual usage and appearance in global media outlets.
Miami debuts this year in the top ten at number eight, thanks in large part to swimwear. In North America, only New York (number one) and Los Angeles (number five) ranked higher.
