The Miami community is rallying behind a beloved local restaurant after a fire destroyed the home of two of its employees.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser created on behalf of Boia De's chef de cuisine, Ilaria Brusaterra, and wine director, Gabriela Ospina, the duo recently lost their home, most of their belongings, and their cats in a "freak electrical fire" while they were at work.

A photo attached to the fundraiser shows what appears to be a room in their home completely gutted by fire with charred walls, collapsed furniture, and scattered debris.

"It takes a lifetime to collect what makes a home, and only an instant to lose it all, a reality that feels especially heavy right now," the fundraiser, created by restaurant owner Alex Meyer, reads. "We are reaching out to our guests, friend[s], and the amazing Miami restaurant community for any support you can offer to help Gaby and Ilaria get back on their feet."
As of Thursday morning, the fundraiser had raised more than $24,900, surpassing its $20,000 goal.

In addition to the GoFundMe, the restaurant hosted a "Sando Sunday" this past weekend, with all proceeds benefitting the Brusaterra and Ospina fundraiser. It's unclear how much the restaurant raised during the event.

The Michelin-starred Italian restaurant, a cozy spot located in a Little Haiti strip mall, serves a rotating lineup of pastas and a rare wine menu. (Fun fact: it was featured in a promotional short film that aired during the Season 2 premiere of The Bear and featured scenes from the popular TV show.)

In late 2022, Boia De owners Luciana Giangrandi and Meyer opened Walrus Rodeo, a second restaurant steps away.

The 32-seat eatery centers around a wood-fired oven, turning out inventive pizzas alongside dishes like lamb ragu lasagna and charbroiled oysters.
