With a rate of 1,198 violent crimes committed per every 100,000 residents in 2011, the City of Miami has been named the 17th most dangerous large city in America, according to the latest statistics released by the FBI.
Business Insider, taking into account only cities of 100,000 people or more, tallied up the most dangerous city rankings. Two cities in Michigan, Flint and Detroit, took the top two spots. Cities like Cleveland, Atlanta and Little Rock also ranked higher on the list than Miami.
FBI also found that Miami “reported 494.4 robberies per 100,000 people, more than four times the national average of 113.7 robberies per 100,000 people.”
The 1,198 violent crimes committed per every 100,000 resident mark for the City of Miami is also significantly higher than the rest of Miami-Dade. Only 724 violent crimes were committed in 2011 for every 100,000 citizens in the county as a whole.
In 2011, the City of Miami also reported 68 murders, 96 (reported) forcible rapes, and 27000 car thefts.
