Halloween is here! As Miami-area trick-or-treaters large and small put the finishing touches on their costumes, they should expect more of a breezy thrill than a downpour scare when heading out this evening. As of Thursday morning, the National Weather Service forecast remains the same as it has all week: mild but gusty conditions, with only a slight chance of rain.

Meteorologist Brian McNoldy, a senior research associate at the University of Miami, characterizes this entire weather week as "very tame and seasonal, with highs, lows, humidity, [and] rain chances" all looking average.

Some climatology fun for #Halloween in #Miami: Over the past fifty years, - average high: 84°F · record high: 91° (set in 2023 & 2002) · record cool high: 75° (set in 2012) - average low: 72°F · record low: 56° (set in 2012) · record warm low: 79° (set in 2019) - 46% chance of rainfall

Halloween Night Forecast

Today (Halloween): Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Windy, with an east wind 18 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Halloween night: Attention, trick-or-treaters: The Halloween forecast looks great! The NWS foresees partly cloudy skies and a low around 77. The likelihood of precipitation is low, with a 20 percent chance of showers. It'll remain breezy, though, with an east wind around 18 mph and gusts as high as 23 mph.

So prepare to hold onto your child's (or your own; who are we kidding?) wizard's hat and/or fairy wings, lest they set off on an unexpected flight.

Will Winds Affect Halloween Decorations?

Yes. While the breezes will add to our tropical Halloween ambiance, you ought to ensure that your outdoor decorations are sufficiently anchored to something solid — please, no skeletons or witches tumbling down the street!

What's This I Hear About Tropical Activity in the Caribbean?

As it has all week, the NWS National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a broad area of low pressure expected to form over the southwestern Caribbean. The forecast hasn't changed much: The system has a low chance of becoming anything significant within the next several days, but it could develop into a tropical depression after that as it drifts northward.

As of this morning, the Hurricane Center says chances of development over the next seven days are at 50-50.

Something to keep an eye on — though it won't snatch the joy out of anyone's trick-or-treating. Stay safe, keep it spooky, and let the breeze blow its magic into your Halloween night.
