Senator Marco Rubio stopped by The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night to promote his new memoir, An American Son. After some brief talk about Rubio's time as a college football player at a now bankrupt school, the two got into some real "Senateyish" discussion. Yes, Marco Rubio coined the new word "Senateyish."
Stewart also tried to nail Rubio on some of the Republican party's decisive issues, and pointed out how some Republican politicians with personal experience with certain issues (Rubio on Immigration, Dick Cheney on Gay Marriage, John McCain on prisoner interrogation) tend to differ from their party. Rubio stuck to his guns, and claimed that Democrats are also guilty of such things as well.
After the nearly 13 minute exchange on-air, the two continued talking for about 25 minutes afterwards with the rest of the discussion posted online.
Not exactly the most hilarious fair here. We did get a kick out of Rubio claiming, "If you would have told me two years ago when I got elected that I would be in the senate for a full two years without anything happening, nothing serious happening ...I would say there's no way."
To which Stewart cracks up and says, "Didn't one of the old guys pull you aside and say, 'This is where ideas come to die ...I've been here 70 years, we haven't done a damned thing.'"
