After his failed Senatorial bid, we've been wondering what former Congressman Kendrick Meek's next step would be? Would he follow his mother into the lucrative world of lobbying? Would he join a think tank or non-profit? What about an appointment in the Obama administration? Nope. Actually he's heading into the world of online journalism. Politics365.com has tapped Meek to chair the editorial board.
Politics365 dubs itself the "premier digital destination for politics and policy related to communities of color." Meek's responsibility will include guiding "the publication's growth and development of news, perspective and commentary for American decision leaders, focusing first on penetrating communities of color."
"Politic365.com is bringing the power of the Web and modern technology to serve an age-old concern -- the need to connect," Meek told the site in a story announcing his new gig. "As chair of the Editorial Board, I want to build on this success. I want to make Politic365 an essential part of the daily lives of Americans. I want to build on Politic365's strengths -- its news, its analysis, its informed and civil conversations -- on the challenges facing our nation."
Meek got his start in politics in the state legislature in 1994, and in 2002 was elected to the House of Representatives. He was the Democrat's nominee for the 2010 Florida senate race, but finished third behind Republican Marco Rubio and independent Charlie Crist.
The job is certainly interesting, but it may not preclude Meek from other ventures. It also certainly doesn't stop him from running for elected office in the future.
