Jackson Senior High Student Shot, Killed In Beats Headphone Robbery UPDATE

On Black Friday, 18-year-old Pedro Uriarte snagged a new pair of Beats headphones. On Sunday afternoon, he tried out the new headphones while walking near Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School on NW 20th Street.

That's when someone shot the Jackson Senior High student, leaving him dead on the side of the road. Uriarte's friends tell CBS 4 that the killing was a robbery gone wrong and that his new headphones were the target.

Update: Police are now casting doubt on Uriarte's friends' claims that he was killed in a robbery over his headphones. The new Beats were left at the scene, police say, while Facebook posts suggest Uriarte's killing may have been in retaliation for a recent double-shooting in Little Haiti.

"How could you take somebody's son, somebody's family member over something so stupid?" one friend said to the TV station this morning.

The killing left Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho calling for action.

Miami Police say they received a call from a witness around 3:30 reporting that a man had been shot at NW 20th Street and Fourth Court. They found Uriarte dead at the scene.

A Miami PD spokesman declined to comment to Riptide this morning about CBS4's report, citing the ongoing investigation.

Police ask anyone with information about the killing to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
