Is Miami Jai-Alai the Next on the Layoff Bandwagon?

We’re barely a month into 2009 and here’s a completely incomplete list of high-profile companies that have or will be slashing local jobs: Macy’s, Circuit City, the Miami Herald, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami City Ballet, and American Airlines. The South Florida Business Journal reports Miami Jai-Alai might soon join this depressing list.

The golden age of jai-alai is well in the rear-view mirror, and SFBJ reports a “drop in core jai-alai patronage, static operating losses, as well as tight money conditions of parent company Florida Gaming Corp.”
