The prospect of sunbathing can be anxiety-inducing for many reasons, people could judge your body, you could develop skin cancer, and, if you're President Donald Trump, you could get shot in the bellybutton by a miniature Iranian drone, an official warned on IRINN TV.
Former Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Larijani told the station in late June the country could strike Trump with pinpoint accuracy at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.
Larijani is an Iranian conservative politician and current senior advisor on the High Council for Human Rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs.
He's no stranger to making inflammatory remarks about sitting presidents. You may remember him from the time he used the Farsi equivalent of the n-word in reference to then-President Barack Obama in 2010, according to PBS. "When Barack Obama was sworn into office, he talked of verbally engaging Iran," he was quoted as saying. "What has changed is that today this [the equivalent of the n-word in Farsi] talks of regime change in Iran."
Larijani seemed to have regime changes on his mind again when talking about micro air vehicle (MAV) technology and heads of state. "Do they have a monopoly on MAV technology?" Larijani reportedly said. "In my view, after what he did, Mr. Trump will no longer be able to sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago, because others can attack us, too. While he's sunbathing, a MAV could hit him right in the belly button."
Trump, orange-tinted as ever, didn't seem too bothered by the statement, telling NBC News reporters this week he hasn't sunbathed in years. "It's been a long time, I don't know," Trump told reporters. "Maybe I was around seven or so. I'm not too big into it."
Larijani did note that he feels drone strikes are for cowards before adding that Trump has several enemies capable of carrying out such a threat. "Obviously, we fight like real men," he reportedly said. "MAVs and the likes are for cowards.... Does Trump only have a handful of enemies in America? Even amateur MAV users might say: 'Let's rip his stomach open.'"
Larijani then went on to include French President Emmanuel Macron in his not-so-veiled threat. "Mr. Macron, do you feel safe going to discotheques and have fun?" he's quoted as saying. "A MAV could easily kill you."
It's unclear what Larijani's thoughts are on MAV defenses at LIV Nightclub or E11EVEN Miami, but New Times will keep watch for threats.
