With 2 days left in our spring campaign, we have a new $10,000 goal!
New Times members have already contributed more than $7,500 - can you help us hit our new goal and keep New Times free and in print every week? If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today.
Tomorrow is the day we have been waiting for all year: the runoff election for the county property appraiser!
Seriously, though, the Electoral College has made Obama’s victory official, and we still have not picked our property appraiser. See, this past November, Gwen Margolis got 72,000 votes more than the next closest guy in the race (that is what, like, the difference between that Minnesota Senate race plus the Bush-Gore Florida debacle times a thousand?), but because she didn’t get 50 percent of the vote, she didn’t officially win. She’ll face off against second-place finisher Pedro Garcia. The whole stupid thing is costing us around $3 million. For more information about voting, visit the Miami-Dade Elections Office website.
