Downtown Miami has an ever growing system of free transit thanks to the MetroMover and the relatively new free trolley system. Though, it's frustrating that the trolley routes stop just short of the bustling Midtown and Wynwood areas. Now the city is fixing the problem -- but during Art Basel week only.

The Miami Downtown Development Authority has announced plans for the "DWNTWN Art Shuttle." The temporary trolley route will extend all the way from the north end of Brickell into the heart of Wynwood. The shuttle will run about every 20 minutes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. between Tuesday and Sunday.

Seems like a good idea, that if used, could help alleviate traffic and parking congestion around the mainland art fairs. Now, if only we could get a free transit loop between downtown and midtown all year long.
