Florida's constitution strictly forbids gays from marrying, but what about the Sunshine State's straights? They're obviously doing such a fine job of upholding the sanctity of marriage, right? Apparently not so. The Daily Beast has compiled a list of "the 50 cities with the worst divorce rates," and Florida seems to dominate it. Four of the state's cities make the top 10, and Miami comes in at number 26.
Panama City hold the dubious distinction of coming it at number one of the list. 15.5 percent of the total population is divorced, and in 2009 the city had a divorce rate of 4.3 percent, the second highest in the nation.
Deltona (#6), Palm Bay (#8) and Jacksonville (#9) also make the top 10.
Miami comes in at number 26, with a total divorced population of 12.9 percent, and a 2009 divorce rate of 2.8 percent.
Port St. Lucie, Bradenton, Orlando, Homosassa Springs, Tampa, and Ocala also make appearance in the top 50.
That's 11 out of the top 50, and more cities on the list than any other state. Even the vastly more populated California only had three cities on the list. So way to go straight Floridians for honoring the sanctity of divorce!
