Poor Donna Shalala. While she's not busy being president of University of Miami she sits on the board of directors for various companies. Duties for which she gets paid nothing, but which must be causing stress at the moment.
She's a director of both Lennar and Gannett. While she's not involved in the day-to-day operations of either, she'll certainly be attending interesting board meetings . After being accused of fraud, Lennar saw its stock dramatically drop. Stockholders are now fighting back with a lawsuit alleging fraud, but no one has been able to corroborate the claims of Barry Minkow, the ex-con turned pastor and watchdog. Indeed it's been revealed that Minkow was paid by a Nicolas Marsch III, a former joint venture partner of the company.
Meanwhile, Gannett -- Donna's other gig -- is the country's largest newpaper publisher. You know what that means. Today, the company announced that it will force most of its employees to take one week of unpaid vacation in a desperate move to save money.
