Butch Davis Doesn't Want that FIU Job Anyway

Sorry Golden Panthers fans, your team won't be getting former Hurricanes coach Butch Davis.

After the shocking firing of head coach Mario Cristobal, rumors emerged that Davis was the school's top choice. Which made a certain amount of sense, considering Davis has a long history with FIU's Athletic Director Pete Garcia.

However, the Miami Herald now reports that Davis has no interest in the job, according to FIU sources.

Daivs, of course, was fired at his last job at UNC following an NCAA investigation (one in which he was never directly implicated), so he can't exactly be super choosy when it comes to picking his next gig. Though, it appears the former NFL coach isn't quite desperate enough to land in Conference USA.

So, apparently the school's next target is Florida State offensive coordinator James Coley. He's a Miami-native who got his coaching career start at Norland Senior High, and spent a single season as FIU's OC before landing in Tallahassee.
