The Miami Dolphins released Pro-Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill after four seasons with the team, according to Monday morning reporting by the NFL.
The news comes as the injury-prone and controversy-ridden wide receiver recovers from a season-ending leg injury he suffered in September 2025. Hill is widely regarded among the fastest, most-dangerous deep threats in the NFL, and his departure frees up more than $22 million in salary cap space for future recruits as the team looks to rebuild under new head coach Jeff Hafley, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, who was among the first to break the news in a post to X (the platform formerly known as Twitter).
In a post covering Hill’s stats with the Dolphins, Schefter points out Hill’s Dolphins stats, including 54 games, 340 receptions, 4,733 receiving yards, 28 total touchdowns, two-time first-team all-pro, and being voted the NFL’s number one player in the top 100 after the 2023 season.
“Sources: Miami’s eight-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released,” the tweet reads. “Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career. His release will save the Dolphins $22.8 million.”
According to NFL reporting, it is unclear whether or not Hill will play in 2026, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, who added that “Hill would’ve had $11 million of his contract become fully guaranteed this month.”
While Hill has been a prolific receiver for Miami, controversy, including an alleged violent history with women, has tainted his career. A 2024 lawsuit claims he broke an Instagram model’s leg during what was described as a “football lesson.” He was detained for speeding outside Hard Rock Stadium in September 2024, mere hours before the team’s opening game for the 2024-2025 season.
Hill arrived in Miami after the Kansas City Chiefs traded him for five draft picks in 2022. And he could be the first of many major cuts for Hafley, with many fans speculating (or maybe hoping) the fins will move on from former University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has had a rollercoaster six seasons in Miami.
