13-Year-Old Girl Shot and Killed on School Bus; Boy in Custody

A 13-year-old girl is in the Miami Children's Hospital after being shot on the school bus on her way to school this morning. Update: The girl has now been pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a male student is currently in police custody in relation to the shooting.


The incident occurred on a private school bus that was taking students to Palm Glades Middle School, a charter school in Homestead. The shooting happened while the bus was in the area of Southwest 296th Street and Southwest 137th Avenue.

Details so far are scarce.

The victim was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital. Her condition is unknown.

The suspected shooter, a fellow male student, is in police custody.

Several other students were talking to police, and many parents have come to the scene to collect their children.

Update: According to CBS Miami, the 13-year-old victim has now died.
