Ximena Sariñana will bring her Rompe USA Tour 2025 and the fruits of a lifetime immersed in music and arts to ZeyZey on Tuesday, May 13. The Mexican singer-songwriter's performances overflow with an authentic joy that traces back to her earliest days under the spotlight.
Born in Guadalajara in 1985 and raised in Mexico City, Sariñana began performing in musical theater at age 8 before landing roles in popular Mexican telenovelas and films. By her early 20s, she had earned recognition for her acting (Best Female Actress at the 2008 Diosas de Plata awards) and her music (Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations for her 2008 debut album, Mediocre).
"Performance has always been a big part of my life. When I was little, it felt like playing a game, just a natural way to express myself," Sariñana tells New Times. "Over time, that playful relationship grew into something more professional. But I still hold on to that original joy every time I step onstage."
ZeyZey's intimate setting stands to provide an ideal backdrop for Sariñana's distinctive fusion of alternative pop, jazz, and Latin rhythms. Attendees will experience her musical versatility and the personal storytelling that imbues her live performances with additional resonance. "What really excites me is that I'm bringing my entire band on this tour," she says of Rompe USA, whose final stop is Miami. "Audiences in the U.S. get to experience the full band show, but in more intimate venues. That creates a special connection with the audience, and I can't wait to share that energy in Miami."
That special connection has been central to Sariñana's appeal since the beginning of her music career. Over the years, she's moved fluidly between styles, collaborating with artists ranging from Los Angeles Azules to Jason Mraz, anchored not by genre but by emotional clarity. "For me, the most important thing is vibing with the song," she says of her collaborative approach. "I'm always looking to expand my horizons and explore new genres. I also need to be genuinely curious about the artist I'm collaborating with, because I want to learn from them."
Her latest track, "Rompe," from which her current tour takes its name, showcases her current state of being while maintaining the earnestness that carried her through the early days of her career. "It's about the endless pursuit of passion and feeling everything intensely," she says. "That resonates with a recent realization about who I am and who I want to continue to be."
Motherhood has also added new dimensions for her to navigate. "Having kids definitely means I have less time for my career, but they've also made me more connected and empathetic. I feel everything on a deeper level now," she shares. They've given my career so much more meaning and purpose."
Sariñana has managed to define success on her own terms — a valuable quality in someone who has been dealing with the limelight for most of their life. "For me, success is about being happy while making the music I want, with as few compromises as possible, and being able to live off that," she says, a philosophy that sums up the balancing act one must navigate amid an industry in constant flux.
