When Brooklyn DJ-production duo Wolf + Lamb launched their eponymous label in the late noughties, bringing like-minded artists such as Soul Clap, No Regular Play and Nicolas Jaar into the fold, they planted the seed of what would eventually blossom into the Crew Love collective.
The Crew now includes up-and-coming new artists like Navid Izadi and Nick Monaco, recruited via Soul Clap's own recently-launched imprint. But the glue that binds them all together is still the same: an irreverent but soulful approach to electronic dance music that denies itself no guilty pleasures, sampling everything from '80s pop to yacht rock and Minneapolis funk.
And what it invariably translates to is a damn good time on the dancefloor. Find out when the Crew, held down by Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, Izadi and Monaco, throw down poolside at the Delano Beach Club on Sunday. But first, get a taste of what to expect with these five Crew Love teasers.
5. Soul Clap's "Need Your Lovin" (John Camp Remix)
"This one's for after the club. Crew friend John Camp unleashes his jazz fingers on Soul Clap's soulful remake for the benefit of all mankind."
4. Navid Izadi's "Crew Is Stayin' (Ya'll Gotta Go)"
"The Crew theme song, by the up-and-coming Navid Izadi. It's an essential of the incredibly talented young gun, holding up the rear of the Crew with heartfelt, groovy dancethems."
3. No Regular Play's "Endangered Species"
"Whenever you're finished warming up and it's time for the show. The main act -- the reason we're all here tonight: NRP."
2. Slow Hands & Tanner Ross's "All the Same"
"Devised by the brilliant duo, each a Crew Love pillar in their own right. Another fine embodiment of the Crew Love concept of cross-collaboration along new lines, exploring new genres and sounds."
1. Navid Izadi's "Feelin' Purple" (Soul Clap Remix)
"The crew's biggest anthem this summer. This one takes the party to the next level at peak time."
