More than 30 years ago, two brothers from Scotland, Jim and William Reid, formed a band called the Jesus and Mary Chain. They were by no means a breakout success. In the band's early days, its bass player, Douglas Hart, had only two strings on his instrument. He allegedly told Britain's Sky News "that's the two I use. I mean, what's the fucking point spending money on another two? Two is enough."

But eventually, after the band's debut single, "Upside Down," climbed the U.K. indie charts, the Jesus and Mary Chain started to gain momentum. Its debut album, Psychocandy, earned fans and controversy, a winning combination. The group's followers were violent, often storming the stage to smash equipment — sometimes with the support of the band, sometimes not.

The band would go on to release five more albums before officially splitting up in '99. It was a messy, drunken breakup.

Since then, a whole new crop of youngsters have discovered the Jesus and Mary Chain thanks to Sofia Coppola's use of the song "Just Like Honey" during the touching finale of the cult classic Lost in Translation. The group reunited in 2007, and Scarlett Johansson (who starred in Lost in Translation) even joined it onstage for its first set back at Coachella.

In November of last year, the band announced that it would tour and perform Psychocandy live in its entirety to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the debut album. Which brings us to the good part: your chance to win free tickets to watch this happen.

On Friday, October 2, the Jesus and Mary Chain will come to Miami's Olympia Theater, and we're giving away two tickets to the show. Here's how you win.
