The Fort Lauderdale–based vinyl shop We Got the Beats will host a midnight release party for A Matter of Time, the new album by jazz-pop star Laufey, on Thursday, August 21. Both store locations, Oakland Park and Lauderhill, will kick off the festivities at 11 p.m., ahead of the official album drop at midnight. Attendees will get a first listen to the album before it officially releases, snag a complimentary poster while supplies last, and receive an exclusive Laufey pin with the record purchase. One lucky fan at each store will also win a limited-edition Laufey tote bag. For those feeling anxious pre-orders can be placed on the vinyl shop’s website.

The midnight celebrations mark the arrival of A Matter of Time, Laufey’s third studio album and a major evolution in her sound. Known for her silky voice and jazz-rooted storytelling, the Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter rose to prominence in 2020 and earned a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album with 2023’s Bewitched. Now, she’s back with a more emotionally unfiltered project, co-produced with longtime collaborator Spencer Stewart and indie mainstay Aaron Dessner. Set for release on August 22 via Vingolf Recordings and AWAL, the album is said to blend cinematic string arrangements with confessional lyricism, tackling themes like friendship breakups, romantic hesitation, and the complexities of self-worth.
Laufey described the album as a look at the “messy, imperfect parts” of herself earlier this year during an interview with Elle. The three singles released so far: “Silver Lining,” “Tough Luck,” and “Lover Girl”, reflect a wider emotional and musical range. From orchestral dream-pop to biting ballads, the project nods to vintage stylings while stepping into a broader, more experimental lane. It’s a move that mirrors her growing fan base, one that stretches from TikTok romantics to jazz purists to festival crowds.

If you're a Laufey fan, this is your chance to get closer to the music, and maybe even start a new release-night tradition.
