Who doesn’t love Los Fabulosos Cadillacs? There is perhaps a handful of bands that can be credited with founding the rock en español movement. But none was more vital to its global spread than perhaps two bands out of Argentina: Soda Stereo, fronted by the legendary Gustavo Cerati, and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. The Fab Cads have been around for more than 20 years, playing a mix of rock, reggae, and ska with the unmistakable influence of their South American heritage. Songs such as “El Matador,” “Mal Bicho,” and “Vasos Vacios,” are classics, and the band added to its catalogue of hits with last year’s La Luz del Ritmo. That most recent record spawned yet another fan favorite, “Padre Nuestro.”
It is only fitting that such a band be the recipient of local tribute. Thus comes this Friday’s concert, thrown by the local site MiamiAlterLatino.com and the cozy Miami Beach venue Poprox. The event is billed as a live performance featuring “local talent.” Who? Who knows? None of the sites say, and the promoters won’t return calls or emails. But local acts covering LFC sounds like a good time anyway, even if you don’t know who’s playing.
