It's finally here! Winter Music Conference starts today. And while the big, splashy parties don't really get going until next week, there are still plenty good reasons why you should start your electro rendezvous today.
Word to wise, if you are heading to South Beach car pool or cab it, we're hearing traffic and parking has been a nightmare as of late. And for those who want to avoid WMC all together, fear not, lots of venues, particularly the SoBe megaclubs, won't start their bass-trembling programming until next week.
But for the hardcore partiers, here's what you are going to want to check out today.
WMC Opening Pool Party. With Robbie Rivera, Rony Seikaly, Louis Puig, Bill Kelly, and more. Surfcomber Hotel, 1717 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Doors 11 a.m. $40 at the door. Robbie Rivera and two Miami nightlife legends -- Louis Puig and Bill Kelly -- along with tons of hard bodies. You can't start out your WMC festivities a better way.
Nervous Records Presents Made in Miami. With Oscar G., Rony Seikaly, Ralph Falcon, Miss Jennifer, Jean Pierre. Shelborne Beach Resort, 1801 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Doors at noon. $30 at the door. shelborneevents.com. Before you drool over all the visiting acts, pay respect to the local DJs who endure Miami's brutal summers and constant threat of alligator attack.
WMC Launch Party. With Catz 'N Dogz, William Renuart, and Brad Strickland. Electric Pickle, 2826 N Miami Ave., Miami. Doors at 10 p.m. $15 at the door. Claude VonStroke-approved Catz 'N Dogz will help you familiarize yourself with the Electric Pickle, a venue you are sure to spend a lot of time in especially if you are looking to discover some of the best dance music out there.
Junior Boys (Live) with Krisp, Entresol, and more. The Vagabond, 30 NE 14th Street, Miami. Doors 10 p.m. Tickets $20 via wantickets.com. The Boys are no strangers to Miami, having played Vagabond and Bardot before, but why not catch them again? Can't beat silky electropop tunes and cheap(ish) drinks in a downtown setting.
