Yesterday, hip-hop pioneer Tone Loc plead not guilty to dual charges of domestic violence and unlicensed possession of an assault rifle.

The rapper and cartoon voice actor was arrested after a dispute with the mother of his children turned physical. Police found the Colt AR-15 Sporter when responding to that call, and now Loc is in double the trouble.

Tone Loc was the second hip-hop artist to top the pop charts (the first were the Beastie Boys) and his 1989 singles “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina” are feel-good essentials in the fabric of America’s pop canon.

No word yet on whether Tone’s rifle was cooler than the one Queens of the Stoneage bassist used to hold his girlfriend hostage. However, Crossfade thinks it might be a good idea for these dudes with actual weapons to team up with Coheed and Cambria bassist, Mic Todd, who robbed a Walgreens with a text message while on tour opening for Soundgarden. .
