Tito El Bambino has certainly come a long way these past 12 years. That’s not to say his beginnings weren’t promising, but he probably wasn’t prepared for runaway success, especially with his last record, El Patrón. Tito began his reggaeton career as half of the duo Hector y Tito, along with Hector “El Father,” and the two quickly entrenched themselves at the forefront of the then-burgeoning movement. Whether they knew it at the time, they were setting the pace for what would become one of the most steadfast trends in the genre: the one-two punch of a singer and a rapper.
But by 2008, the duo had separated, and the solo Tito racked up a pair of successful releases thanks to the records Top of the Line and It’s My Time. The former featured the hit single “Siente el Boom,” and the latter “El Tra.” But none of those successes could compare to what the Puerto Rican reggaetonero would experience with his latest. In large part owing to his third single, “El Amor,” Tito spent the better part of the past year atop pretty much all of Billboard‘s Latin charts. The track nabbed him some 18 nominations in this year’s Billboard Awards, setting a new record for the ceremony.
