Just when I thought the hipster-hop genre was dead, in comes up-and-coming Brooklyn MC Theophilus London to save the day. London has been on the cusp of breaking it big for that last year or so and has received plenty of accolades from publications likes The Fader and Urb, which featured him in its Next 100 list. He also received plenty attention at this year’s SXSW where he performed alongside Solange Knowles at the Fader Fort.
Also making music journos cream is his mixtape, called This Charming Mixtape, which was released at the beginning of the year (you can download it in its entirety here).
What definitely sets him apart from his hipster-hop peers is that he is falls much more neatly into the category of R&B due to his incredibly smooth vocal delivery, so if we place him in the aforementioned category its more because there is no such thing as hipster R&B (at least not yet). So if you know what’s best for you, you’ll check out London, Tuesday, May 19, at Rokbar.
