Party people, get ready. This is going to be one of those weekends. You know the ones–the kind that make Miami such a great city. The ones where you whip through it in a frenzy from Friday to Sunday, in whirlwind of activity, only to awake Monday morning, perhaps a little worse for wear, but ultimately satisfied. Sure your liver’s going to be hating you and your feet’ll be throbbing. But this is Carnaval on the Mile!
Truth be told, it’s a family-friendly affair. But it is a full three days of some of the best music our fair city has to offer in a block party setting. Carnaval on the Mile locks down Miracle Mile from Ponce to Le Juene, with lots of food, even more booze, and three different stages.
It can be a little daunting trying to plot who you want to catch where. But we’ll try to guide you through it. Friday night begins simply enough. There’s one stage at the Ponce de Leon Circle, and the show kicks off at 7pm with a lineup featuring Michelle Forman, Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Soul Rebels.
But from their it gets complicated. Saturday at noon the festivities
resume, and they roll on into the evening, spreading the love over
three stages. The Ponce stage’s musical offerings include Electric Piquete, Fourth Dimension, Jacob Jeffries Band, ChocQuibTown, Eruption and Nil Lara, among others. But the Douglas stage isn’t messing around either. Ever So Klever, Negroni’s Trio and Liset Alea are some of the names on the bill. And then there’s the Le Jeune stage, featuring The State Of, Fusik, Radioboxer, Juke and Ketchy Shuby.
Sunday doesn’t get any easier. Ponce has got Jahfe, Felipe Lamoglia Quintet, Spam Allstars, and Ed Calle with Arturo Sandoval on the bill. Douglas boasts Oriente, Palo!, Lanzallamas Monofonica, and Conjunto Progreso. And Le Jeune will be showcasing Elastic Bond, Xperimento, Mayday!, Suenalo and Locos Por Juana.
Whew! Made me tired just writing about it.
