Looking for an excuse to wear a costume before October? This one’s for you. The Junina Festival is an annual family-oriented Brazilian event featuring traditional food, music, games, and garb. Popular getups include men dressing as farm boys and sporting suspenders and straw hats, and women as farm girls with pigtails, red-check dresses, and painted gap-teeth. The North Beach Bandshell will be transformed from an outdoor amphitheater to an open setting for this Brazilian party. Also featured will be all the corn you can eat (since the festival traditionally takes place during the corn harvest) and quadrilha dancing, which is similar to square dancing but has a better name.
