Surfer Blood is, like, superfamous.
The West Palm Beach foursome has been almost single-handedly spreading South Florida’s indie-rock message, playing every music festival imaginable, including SXSW, CMJ, and even ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas. In fact, this crew might be the hottest white-boy thang to come out of SoFla since Vanilla Ice.
Still, these crackers stay true to their roots, performing around these parts as often as humanly possible. And this Friday, the Surfer Blood boys will play a free show at Bayfront Park as part of the DWNTWN Miami Concert Series, alongside Spam Allstars’ funky Latin fusion and Ketchy Shuby’s soulful reggae.
Last year, Surfer Blood released its debut album, Astro Coast, to the delight of the music-nerd elite. Pitchfork even gave it an honorable mention on its 2010 Albums of the Year list. Later this month, the band’s new EP, Tarot Classics, will be out on Warner Bros. Records. And if it launches the quartet even deeper into the universe of extreme rock stardom, we DWNTWNers will be able to brag forever about seeing Surfer Blood for free the eve of becoming superduperfamous.
