South Florida is no stranger to canceled October concerts due to the fear of hurricanes. LCD Soundsystem didn't show up to III Points in 2016 due to the precaution of Hurricane Matthew. Last year, Usher moved back his October Kaseya Center dates to December to avoid Hurricane Milton. However, blaming an October concert cancellation on the threat of hurricanes in July is a brand-new excuse. That happened Wednesday when The Steve Miller Band put the kibosh on their October 5 show at Hard Rock Live. The classic rock band known for '70s hits like "The Joker" and "Fly Like an Eagle" cancelled their entire 31-date Summer and Fall North American tour out of excessive caution towards the weather.

On a Wednesday night Instagram/Facebook/X post, the band stated, "The Steve Miller Band has cancelled all of our upcoming tour dates. The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, and massive forest fires makes these risks for you, our audience, the band, and the crew unacceptable. So…You can blame it on the weather...The tour is cancelled."

Some Smart Alecks in the comment sections opined that this was a lame way to cover up for poor ticket sales. Variety reported that Ticketmaster seating maps showed tons of unsold tickets. Still, the entertainment trade publication admitted, "this could be at least partially due to the fact that the launch date was nearly a month away".

Ticketmaster announced that if you bought a ticket from them for the October 5 show they'll, "issue a refund to the original method of payment used at time of purchase, as soon as funds are received from the Event Organizer. It should appear on your account within 14-21 days."

South Florida fans of Steve Miller have had plenty of chances to catch the "Abracadabra" singer over the last couple of years. His Steve Miller Band played the Pompano Beach Amphitheater in March of 2023 and performed at Hard Rock Live in July of the previous year. Still, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is no spring chicken at 81 years young. So hopefully the skies will clear up and the climate will improve enough so that locals will have another chance to hear "about Billy Joe and Bobbie Sue/ Two young lovers with nothin' better to do".
