Some artists are so dedicated their craft that they become masters of their turf. Born in Trinidad and raised in New York, Timmy Regisford is known among his many fans simply as the Maestro, a nod to his flawless set-conducting techniques. Over the past two decades, Regisford has ruled NYC with precise but expressive DJ sets, and his residency at the long-running Club Shelter is the stuff of legend. Its celebrated Sunday tea dance marathons are still a city staple, in a scene known more for fly-by-nights than staying power.
Tuesday, March 23, at Shine at the Shelborne, Regisford and Shelter will celebrate 20 years of late nights and early mornings, with a lineup that also features heavy-hitters David Morales and DJ Dino. But Regisford is the man holding everything together, busting out his incomparable bag of tricks for this family reunion of a house-loving crowd. We hear they’ll even sprinkle baby powder on the floor.
