Every time Oscar D’León plays “Llorarás,” a Venezuelan cries. The same goes for Willy Chirino’s “Campeones de la Salsa” with Cubans, Jarabe de Palo’s “Bonito” with Spaniards, and Diego Torres’s “Guapa” with Argentines.
So what happens when you flood Klipsch Amphitheater with all of those acts, a world of fans responding to them, and 21 other high-caliber, internationally renowned bands and performers from the U.S., Central and South America, Europe, and the Caribbean? The Rola Music Fest, a veritable Woodstock Latinoaméricano. It’s gonna be three days of peace, love, and churros.
From the electronic manipulations of Patafunk to the merengue-style rap of Proyecto Uno and the Miami fusion sound of Locos por Juana, lively experimentation will shake culos alongside the classics. Plus, New York City’s King Chango will join the fray as part of its comeback run, and local punk outfit Social Klash will get to rock out on the edge of the bay while DJs Willy, Mr. Pauer, and Nayib Estefan keep the action moving all weekend.
If we’re lucky, the whole shebang will come back next year, bigger and stronger than ever.
