Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Hot spring days are great for family outings: sitting in the sun, playing with the kids, and enjoying smooth and relaxing jazz and soul. This is what one can expect at the Riviera Beach Jazz and Blues Festival, a two-day event headlined by a handful of legendary performers such as Chaka Khan, the lady behind “Through the Fire,” “Tell Me Something Good,” and countless other hits; Roberta Flack, whose piano-based ballads such as “Killing Me Softly” left an indelible mark on popular music; and Isaac Hayes, the onetime innovator behind concept albums such as Hot Buttered Soul. They’ll be augmented by a talented lineup that includes Nicole Henry, Jean Carne, Mindi Abair, and many others. Khan takes command Friday, while Flack and Hayes headline the Saturday event.
The Riviera Beach Jazz and Blues Festival takes place at 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, and noon Saturday, April 2, at Singer Island across from Ocean Mall, Riviera Beach. Tickets range from $12 to $35. Call 561-845-3405.
