And like the leader of a gypsy caravan, it's moved across venues throughout town, from cavernous rooms to small resto-lounges and back. After a year's stint at Studio A, it's returned to Pawn Shop, where it ruled the main room from 2004 to 2006. In its current incarnation, Revolver has taken over the club's back Boutique room, a warehouselike space with a suitably grimy back alley entrance and a raw, free-for-all vibe.
Tonight's anniversary party (really just the eight-year birthday bash, a little late) promises special guests from across the spectrum of what's hip now. Lo-fi lovers will be appeased by the Prozac pop of Matt and Kim, a Brooklyn duo who appear to number among the happiest indie rockers ever. The Stone Figs bring back abrasive, shaggy-haired noise in the band's first Miami performance. The marquee DJ name is Flosstradamus, a Chicago duo whose mashups of nearly every conceivable genre are totally de rigeur, and totally booty-shake-inducing.
All of that, plus just-added surprise guest DJ sets from Royal Rumble and Young Americans, both from L.A. Then there are the dance-floor stylings of resident DJs Lauren A. and Lazaro Casanova. The latter is a homegrown talent who's been blowing up internationally thanks to touring gigs with Canadian electro remixers MSTRKRFT.
