CANCELED Psychic TV will no longer be playing at The Vagabond Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach week. However, Merchandise is still currently slated for the show.

Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (born Neil Andrew Megson) is a trailblazing freak.

Since the late ’60s (following the founding of COUM Transmissions, the performance art collective that led to the formation of Throbbing Gristle), the multimedia artist, highly eccentric performer, and pandrogynous icon has been so close to the cutting edge of experimental music that it’s incredible she hasn’t been decapitated.

At every stage of her career, P. Orridge has been partially responsible for defining new waves and innovations, contributing to pop culture some of the earliest instances of industrial, ambient electronic, noise, acid house, and avant-garde explosions in rock and pop contexts.

And now P-Orridge — flanked by her post-Throbbing Gristle main squeeze ensemble, Psychic TV — will be making a return to South Florida. But in typical PTV fashion, any and all expectations have been dashed from the get-go.

In addition to this going down at Downtown Miami nightlife mainstay The Vagabond, Crossfade was also surprised to see that Tampa’s quickly ascending, shoegazing wave-rockers Merchandise will be performing the opening duties.

How did this emotive, soulful, anthemic, angst-filled indie-pop synth-rock band land a spot opening for one of experimental music’s most cultish (in every sense of the word) acts?
