Pete Tong at Mynt Lounge on Tuesday, October 27

Pete Tong is hardly a man who needs introduction. The hardworking and ubiquitous British DJ, radio personality, label head and perennial host of legendary BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix is one of the most highly-regarded tastemakers in the world of electronic dance music. An early proponent of house, when the sound was first coming out of Chicago in the mid-'80s, his fingers remain tightly pressed on the pulse of international EDM.

Tong is also one of the world's most recognized DJs, particularly in the high-profile jetsetting Balearic realm, having presided over Ibiza's mega-club Pacha as resident DJ from 2003 to 2007. Since 2008 he has hosted his own "Wonderland" party at Ibiza's club Eden, where the talent on any given night includes the likes of Groove Armada, Todd Terry and Eric Prydz. And in DJ mode, he's certainly no stranger to Miami, being a regular fixture at WMC and Ultra every year.

Pete Tong will be stopping by our neck of the woods -- Mynt Lounge in SoBe -- on Tuesday, October 27 for an exclusive DJ set on the first leg of his new US tour. It's kind of strange that he didn't plan for a weekend booking or a bigger venue, considering he could have packed LIV or Karu & Y with greater numbers of the same upscale clientele as Mynt, but somehow the notoriously posh and exclusionary SoBe venue is befitting, having the same jetsetting Eurotrashy crowd he's probably used to in Ibitha. So if you wanna get back at Monday for killing your weekend, and get your kicks on Tuesday, drop by Mynt for a taste of the international dance music zeitgeist.

Pete Tong at Mynt Lounge. Tuesday, October 27. Doors open at 11 p.m. 1921 Collins Ave, Miami Beach. $40 admission. 305-695-1705. www.myntlounge.com
