Since 2001, Oscar G has been Space’s resident DJ and the main reason why patrons still flock to the all-night 11th Street mainstay. Not to mention the fact that he’s done remixes for artists like Madonna and Pet Shop Boys and as one-half of Murk (the other half being Ralph Falcon) has racked up numerous industry awards. So what is such a high-profile DJ doing at Hoy Como Ayer’s (2212 SW 8th Street, Miami) Wednesday night party Tropicasa?

“We wanted to take it back to our roots, away from downtown and the Beach,” explains Jackie Richie, the self-proclaimed Queen of Space and one of the night’s hosts. The other, David Orth, says he and Oscar have been playing around with the idea of doing a mid-week party for a long time. “I had been going to Hoy Como Ayer for years now to see the Spam All-stars and I thought it would be a great place for Oscar G to do a party.” And with the promise of no guestlists, no VIPs and no dress code, the night is more of a low-key affair that’s heavy on the house beats. Seven dollar cover charge and $5 beers also make this a cheap night out. For more information, call 305-541-2631 or visit myspace.com/djoscarg.
