It’s no coincidence that college-educated, 18-to-35-year-old female caffeine addicts with a knack for hipstery fashion will likely make up the crowd at this Friday’s Neon Trees show in Fort Lauderdale. In May, Seattle java giant Starbucks and New York City-based fashion magazine Nylon announced they’d cosponsor the Trees’ trek ’round North America, appropriately dubbed the Nylon and Starbucks Frappuccino Summer Music Tour. Thus, the trio is “rockin’ America one city at a time” while boosting brand recognition and profit shares. But don’t dismiss this road trip as just some inauthentic scheme to sell iced coffee and magazine subscriptions; the band really does love Starbucks. “My Frappuccino drink order is the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino,” Neon Trees’ Chris Allen says in a behind-the-scenes tour video filmed at one of the coffee chain’s 12,848 American stores. “Obviously, with some whipped cream, chocolate, and caramel on top.”
