Over the past decade, Mystikal has had a surprisingly long and fruitful career for a rapper best known for maniacally catchy novelty hits like “Shake Ya Ass” and “Danger.” Part of the appeal, of course, lies in his distinctive voice, a wild and loud bark that sounds like someone yelling in a club at the top of his lungs. But he’s also a keen lyricist who delivers lines with vivid imagery. “You see them fuckin’ lights/You hear that fuckin’ crowd?/ Start that goddamn show, I’m comin’ through,” he shouts on fellow Atlanta rapper Ludacris’s “Move Bitch.” Okay, so Mystikal’s no Shakespeare, but he definitely has a raw, uninhibited energy that’s representative of Southern rap, a raucousness that should be on ample display when he performs at the Beat (WMIB-FM) 103.5’s “Official Spring Break Jam.”
