Reach into the corners of your closet you didn’t even know existed, and celebrate David Bowie’s music and life this Saturday at Churchill’s. For the sixth time, the Little Haiti dive is hosting its annual Bowie in Space party with live music, DJs, and no cover if you are over 21.
If you haven’t been to any of Churchill’s previous Bowie nights, this is one not to miss. It will be the first Bowie in Space since the White Duke succumbed to cancer on January 10. Saturday will also mark the 14-year anniversary of his album Heathen, which featured collaborations with Black Francis of the Pixies and Neil Young.
Bowie in Space will have live musical performances by local bands Armada! and the Talking Dogs, as well as Miami solo artists Xela Zaid, Fort Lauderdale’s Godsend, and DJ Carlos Menendez. Get ready for a night of rock, post-punk, and experimental sounds all in homage to one of the most influential and innovative artists in the history of contemporary music.
Bowie in Space with Xela Zaid, Armada!, and more. 8 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Churchill’s, 5501 NE Second Ave., Miami; 305-757-1807; churchillspub.com. Admission is free for ages 21 and up; $5 for under 21.
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
