Andrew VanWyngarden, one-half of the iconic duo MGMT, will be landing at Jolene Sound Room on Saturday, October 26, for a special DJ set at the lounge downtown. He'll spin under the tongue-in-cheek moniker DJ Ing alongside a back-to-back set by DJ Ray and Extra Andrew.

Naturally, VanWyngarden is best known for his contributions to MGMT. VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser formed the band while they were students at Wesleyan University. In 2017, the pair released their debut album, Oracular Spectacular, to critical and commercial success. It included anthems like "Time to Pretend," "Kids," and "Electric Feel." They saw further mainstream success in 2009 when the band was featured on Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness."

However, MGMT was never entirely comfortable with being a commercially successful product and its members pretty much turned their backs on being the hit festival-circuit band they seemed destined to become, releasing Congratulations in 2010, which boasted a more psychedelia, guitar-driven sound than that of their debut. MGMT continued on that path in their 2013 self-titled album while veering a bit more synthpop on 2018's Little Dark Age.

In 2024, MGMT continued to prove their relevancy, releasing their fifth album, Loss of Life, a project that has captured the attention of both fans and critics alike. VanWyngarden and Goldwasser described the album as "Sleepless in Seattle directed by Paul Schrader."

While VanWyngarden's DJing career isn't as prolific, he certainly has the musical chops. This isn't his first time behind the decks, previously spinning at venues like Brooklyn's Good Room.
