Fans of late '90s Miami rap are in for a special treat. Madball and Uzi — better known as the Rufftown Mob — will host a meet‑and‑greet at Miami's Technique Records on July 26, just in time to promote their upcoming show at Eddie's Place on August 30.
If you're not already familiar with the duo, Madball and Uzi were foundational figures in the rise of Miami bass, originally part of the iconic Poison Clan. They joined the group in the early '90s after Debonaire's exit, collaborating with JT Money, Drugz, and later Big Ram. That lineup gave us three albums between 1992 and 1995 before everyone split. In 1997, Madball and Uzi resurfaced as Rufftown Mob, dropping Rock Bottom of the Pile. By 2000, they'd rebranded again and released 21 Thug Salute. Though they faded from the limelight afterward, they returned for a full-circle moment on JT Money's 2005 album Undeniable, reuniting the Poison Clan spirit.
Now Technique Records is giving fans another reason to return: they recently announced via Instagram, "We are RENOVATING! Been saying this for over a year. We have completely overhauled our CD section, and the next step is a complete overhaul for 45s. Other exciting projects on the way." The long‑awaited refresh signals that both the music and the space are getting a new lease of life.
The free meet‑and‑greet at Technique opens doors at noon on July 26, with Madball and Uzi taking over from 2 to 6 p.m. Expect record signings, swag, and ticket giveaways for the Eddie's Place show, and DJ sets by Aonq and MystixLaBruja. If you're brave, lock in one of two 30‑minute open‑deck slots from 2–3 p.m. — just spin Miami bass, freestyle, Poison Clan, or Rufftown sounds via an XDJ‑AZ deck (don't forget an updated USB drive).
Primitivo presents the event in partnership with MystixLaBruja and Traumatize. Local flavor gets a boost, too: Taco Time and More will sell delicious Mexican street tacos (al pastor, steak, chicken), birria tacos with mozzarella, and quesadillas.
Rufftown Mob record signing. 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Technique Records 880 NE 79th St, Miami, 786 -717-6622; techniquerecords.com. Admission is free.
