DJ-producer Eric Estornel is a veritable chameleon of electronic dance music. In a career spanning almost two decades, he’s shifted musical styles as often as monikers. His extensive discography boasts atmospheric techno as Maetrik, twisted electro as Mariel Ito, and moody deep house as Maceo Plex, all executed with a relentlessly innovative edge.
Born in Texas, Estornel made a name for himself in the ’90s American EDM scene. Then he migrated to Valencia, Spain, positioning himself at the center of the European scene. And this last year may have been his busiest yet, with a series of acclaimed releases, as Maetrik and Maceo Plex, on top international labels such as Cocoon and Audiomatique.
On Crosstown Rebels, meanwhile, he recently put out the widely acclaimed, soulful house number “Vibe Your Love,” an early candidate for summer anthem of 2011. The label will also drop a full-length Maceo Plex album at the end of this month, which makes Friday’s performance at Electric Pickle a perfect chance to preview new material from this prolific talent.
