In 2005, house music is still everywhere. Want proof? Meet Jask, a producer from Tampa, of all places, who is slowly building a reputation with his brand of “Thai house,” a rhythmically deep twist on the sound that will ring familiar to fans of Osunlade, Ron Trent, and François Kervorkian. Jask is from north Florida, but his heart is in Chicago, where he records for the Large Music label. He was recently commissioned to mix a disc for the Chicago edition of the Afterdark compilation series (the second disc is mixed by Chris Brann). Saturday he brings his bag of tracks to South Beach for a night at Blue, where he’ll be celebrating the release of Afterdark: Chicago as well as DJ Sheldon Prince’s birthday.
Jask, Vaughan Lazar, Jason Wiggill, and Sheldon Prince perform at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Blue, 222 Española Way, Miami Beach. Tickets cost $10. Call 305-534-1009.
