The swingers' party lands in the middle (love triangle?) of a busy few days at Shadow. Thursday the Progressive Sessions party goes live with the tripped-out, funky beats of Los Angeles trance band Deepsky, which consists of duo Scott Giaquinta and Jason Blum. Giaquinta will poke at sequencers and effects while Blum pounds away on an array of percussions to animate space-boogie tracks such as "Stargazer," "Cosmic Dancer" (featuring sampled vocals from world-music guru Jai Uttal), and "Tempest," a tune that landed on a couple of Nick Warren's discs and was the theme song for MTV's dance-music show Amp. Doors open at 11:00 p.m. Cover charge is $15.
Talk about far out -- can you believe BET (Black Entertainment Television) has been around for twenty years? Yep, and it's celebrating the anniversary with a fete at Shadow's Sunday-evening soiree, 4 Play. Film crews will be on hand to catch the madness as DJ Khaled spins. The party begins at 11:00 p.m. and cover charge is $20.
The dance-music arena isn't the only place where things are alive on the Beach. Once again V Lounge (737 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 305-674-0048) turns from dance club to hard-rock pit as Endo blasts the house at the club's CBGB gathering. The band hosts a CD-release party for its new disc Evolve. And talk about progress: Endo recently signed with New York's Concrete Management, which handles Pantera and Ministry. Also on the bill are Al Is Well, Enemy Against Enemy, and about six other bands. The party continues on Monday, when Square Egg and five other rock crews take over.
