Last time Italo-disco duo Glass Candy played live at the Vagabond, it was almost a year ago to a sold-out crowd. It’s odd, really — the pair has scored cult status in a city that’s rarely passionate about anything.
But how can you not be mesmerized by Glass Candy’s heavy disco influence (Giorgio Moroder is either very proud or very pissed off) and Ida No’s vocals? Oh, Ida, you always sweat your ass off, making sure everyone has a good time. Unfortunately, the Vagabond’s tiny stage has sort of limited her live antics in the past. One can only imagine what she could do with a stage the size of the Fillmore’s.
If there is one caveat, it’s that Glass Candy really hasn’t released any new material since 2007’s B/E/A/T/B/O/X and the rarities compilation Deep Gems. The duo keeps promising the release of its upcoming album, Body Work, but the only affirmative sign has been a single, “Feeling Without Touching.” Then again, who can blame the band for taking its time — B/E/A/T/B/O/X was a critics’ darling.
