The members of Future Sound of London enjoy a significance in electronic music that has as much to do with their extroverted technological savvy as their introverted music, both of which are represented on the greatest-hits collection, Teachings from the Electronic Brain. FSOL works along the experimental ambient lines, entertaining soundscapes and nebulous textures far more than nightclubs. Huge, bassy growls are the driving force behind the Tibetan feel of “Yage”; upbeat, funk-fueled rhythms and Middle Eastern strings make up “The Lover”; and “We Have Explosive” is about aggressive noise. FSOL’s diversity becomes most apparent when experienced as a package.
