Art is cool.
But the coolest part is the free booze and tiny extravagant hors d'oeuvres.
Remember that Basel week when the punks raided a truckload of Campari and then drank it all in the parking lot next to The Stage?
Well, this weekend's gallery get-togethers might not yield any moments that epic. But there'll still be nice pictures, complimentary drinks, gratis grub, cool people, and killer music.
Here are Crossfade's five best art parties during this weekend's Second Saturday Art Walk.
The Wynwood Squat Launch Party. Saturday, October 13. Wynwood Squat, 120 NW 25th St., Miami. The party starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 11. Visit wynwoodsquat.com. Fashion? Art?! Music?!? In that order?! Goodness gracious, I do believe we have located the Platonic form of art parties. Did we mention: "30 young brands of fashion and art, specialty cocktails and bites, sounds by DJ I.A.N." And, of course, "art and video installations."
Crossfit 305 & A1A Pre-Nutrition Happy Hour Challenge. With Stokeswood. Saturday, October 13. The Stage, 170 NE 38th St., Miami. The party starts at 8 p.m. and ends at 2 a.m. Email email@example.com to get on the list. Think of this lil' soiree as the nightlife equivalent to high school football parties. Only instead of carbing out on garlic rolls, you're slurping hooch out of a stranger's bellybutton, all in the name of fitness! The Facebook RSVP also touts the open-air patio as an alternative to being crammed in a closet with, like, a million tiki torches burning.
Dim Past. Saturday, October 13. Locust Projects, 3852 N. Miami Ave., Miami. Three performances from 7 till 9 p.m. Call 305-576-8570 or visit locustprojects.org. Nothing screams "Art Walk!" like some good ol' fashioned techno. Show up trolling and dressed like a character from The Matrix.

Tyord, Phantasm, and X3SR. Saturday, October 13. Sweat Records, 5505 NE Second Ave., Miami. The party starts at 8 p.m. and ends at 11. Call 786-693-9309 or visit sweatrecordsmiami.com.Or maybe you like your electronic music hazed, dazed, and chillwave'd? In that case, visit Sweat Records, who will be hosting a trio of smooth operators of the chill, trill, and beyond.
Champion: Encore Reception.Saturday, October 13. Primary Projects, 4141 NE Second Ave., Suite 104, Miami. The party starts at 7 p.m. Visit primaryprojectspace.com. This claims to be an art show. But one look at the artists listed on the Facebook RSVP makes it clear that (while there will certainly be visual stimulus that serves no practical purpose but is supposed to impart something transcendental) this is going to be a fucking rager! Get there while the hooch-gettin' is good.
